Choosing a stronger MFA Factor than SMS

Summary

What a user should expect to see at authentication when SMS is deprecated and the user has not switched to a stronger MFA Factor.

Body

Required Okta MFA Enrollment Page Without SMS

In September of 2025, SMS (text and calls) will be deprecated from St. Edward's Okta log-ins. Users have been encouraged to enroll in additional factors for authentication; however, this article aims to illustrate what user authentication looks like if an end user chooses not to enroll in other factors before the September cutoff. Please see our SMS Deprecation article for more information on the deprecation process.

If you have not switched to stronger factors before the September cutoff, Okta will require you to enroll in one of the available factors on your next login. See the screenshot below for a visual example of the required MFA enrollment page. Additionally, please see our How to Reset Your Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) Factors should you need guidance on how to choose a stronger MFA factor before our September deadline.
