Working remotely? You may want to forward calls from your office to your cellphone or another number.
For employees working off-campus during the Remote Operations Initiative, we recommend you consider forwarding calls from your office. But keep in mind: Enabling call forwarding means enabling it for the duration of your time away from campus. Once it's set, you won't be able to end call forwarding until you return to your office.
Set Up Call Forwarding from Your Office
To enable forwarding, follow these steps. While doing so, do not lift the phone's handset. Keep in the cradle.
- Press the FORWARD key. The display screen will show CFWD.
- Pressing FORWARD again will forward calls to the previous number set for forwarding.
- If you haven't set up a forwarding number previously or want to forward to a different number, enter the phone number now. If forwarding internally at St. Edwards, enter the four-digit extension. If forwarding off campus or to a cellphone, press 6 and then enter the rest of the number. Note: Remember to include the area code.
- Press the FORWARD key again. The display screen will show CFWD, which means the call forward function is activated.
End Call Forwarding from Your Office
To disable forwarding after it has been activated, press the FORWARD key. The display screen should read CALL FORWARD CANCELED.
Remote Requests for Call Forwarding
If you weren't able to forward your phone before leaving campus, OIT can forward it for you. If you would like us to forward your phone, please make a request using the form on this page or by emailing support@stedwards.edu. We will forward a number only if you've made an official request.
Before you make that request, consider the following.
- Forwarding your office phone is a 24/7 solution. We were not able to adjust the settings to forward calls only during business hours.
- If you have a personal greeting on your cellphone voicemail, consider changing it temporarily to something professional that identifies you as a St. Edwards employee.
- Incoming forwarded calls will originate from the main university number (512-448-8400). You may want to add this number to St. Edwards University in your contacts so you can recognize it more easily.
- While your office phone number is being forwarded, you'll no longer receive voicemail on your office phone either. Voicemail messages will come to your cellphone or the phone you've forwarded calls to.
Checking Voicemail Remotely
If you decide not to forward your calls, you can access voicemail left on your office phone remotely. Check our voicemail guide for more details. We encourage you to do this somewhat regularly while working off-campus.
