Adding Your Pronouns in University Applications

Sharing your pronouns helps create a respectful and affirming environment for all. By respecting each others pronouns, we support St. Edwards Universitys mission for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Justiceand help individuals whether they are a part of the St. Edwards community or not feel safe and heard.

Note: This article explains how to add your pronouns to university applications managed by the Office of Information Technology (OIT). While it may not cover everything, you may want to consider adding your pronouns wherever makes sense for you. Examples of where you can put your pronouns in the digital space include your email signature, social media profiles, and other online platforms.

With a few clicks, you can add your pronouns to applications you use daily:

Canvas

If you choose to display your pronouns in Canvas, they will appear next to your name in different sections of Canvas, such as:
  • Comment Fields
  • Discussions
  • Inbox
  • People Page (Course and Groups)
  • User Navigation Menu
  • User Profile Page
  • User Settings Page

How to set up your pronouns in Canvas:
  1. Log in to Canvas from myHilltop.
  2. From the navigation menu, go to "Account" > "Profile" > "Edit Profile."
  3. In the "Pronouns" drop-down menu, select your pronouns.

Zoom

  1. Sign in to the Zoom web portal from myHilltop.
  2. In the "Profile" section, click "Edit."Then, enter your pronouns in the "Pronouns" field.
  3. Decide how you would like to share your pronouns (always share, ask first, or do not share).
  4. Click "Save."
