Retiring Security Questions for MFA on Apr 15, 2026

What is changing? Starting April 15, Security Questions will no longer be supported as a valid multi-factor authentication (MFA) method when logging into your St. Edward’s account.

What do you need to do? Before the April 15 deadline, verify that you are enrolled in and using a strong MFA method:

  •     If you’re only using Security Questions: Install and configure a more secure authentication option:
  • If you’ve already enrolled in a more secure factor: Make sure that you’re using it instead of Security Questions. When you log in you should be getting a notification or numeric code to enter from an app on your phone or computer.
  • To switch to using your stronger factor: When prompted for your Security Questions, click the Verify with something else link and select one of the stronger options.

Why are we doing this? Security Questions are like a second password, and worked to secure your account before stronger authentication factors were available. Replacing them with an authenticator app better protects your account, and will let you more easily reset your password from your phone or computer if you ever get locked out. As a reminder, St. Edward’s University support will never ask for your password or MFA factor information when assisting you with your account.

Need help?

If you have trouble logging in with your authenticator app or no longer have access to the device you originally enrolled, please create a ticket before April 15 to avoid being locked out of your account.

IET is offering in-person support from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m near the Moody Ramp (Rain Location: Moody Atrium) on the following dates:
