Accessing Research Technology

St. Edward's provides access to software to support the research process. These tools will assist you in collecting, analyzing and organizing your data.

OIT supports research software through consultation and online resources like LinkedIn Learning. Faculty and staff with a university-owned computer can request installation of available applications through OIT support.

  • Note: Some applications may require your department to purchase them.

Data Analysis Software

Qualtrics Survey tool All students, faculty and staff can log in to Qualtrics with their St. Edward's credentials.
NVivo Qualitative data analysis NVivo is available on lab and classroom computers and can be installed on faculty and student computers by requesting access from OIT Support.
SPSS Statistical software SPSS is pre-installed on all lab and classroom computers and is available to all St. Edward's faculty and students. Additionally, you can download the free student SPSS license.
R Statistical software R is available for free download directly from the R Project site.
SAS Advanced statistical software Users must purchase a license for SAS.
Tableau Business Intelligence (BI) Tool for creating visually appealing reports Tableau offers a free educational license for instructors and students. Maintenance and support for Tableau Server are managed by the Office of Institutional Effectiveness.
Excel Basic research and analysis software for storing, organizing and manipulating data Microsoft Office comes pre-installed on all lab and classroom computers, as well as all university-owned faculty and staff computers. Additionally, students can download a free Microsoft Office 365 license.
Minitab Statistical package Minitab is available on all Windows lab and classroom computers. Additionally, students and faculty can access the software online.
Maple Math and engineering software Maple is installed on all Windows lab and classroom computers and can be installed on university-owned faculty computers. Other users must purchase a separate license for access.

Citation Managers and Discovery Tools

Munday Library The Munday Library offers research support for searching library content, saving results into collections, and generating citations Research support is provided by the Munday Library via email, phone, online FAQs and research guides.
Google Scholar Search engine for scholarly literature Google Scholar is free to the public. To connect full-text articles to Google Scholar, users should access it from the Library's website.
Zotero Reference manager Zotero is free to download.
Mendeley Reference manager Mendeley is free to download.
EndNote Reference manager Users must purchase an EndNote license.
Citation Machine Citation generator Citation Machine is free to download.
