Using New Analytics in Canvas

New Analytics is a Canvas tool that allows instructors to track average course grades through interactive charts, graphs or tables for student submissions. It also provides reports like the Course Roster, which can be used to generate lists of students along with their email addresses.

This article covers:

What do you need to know about New Analytics?

  • New Analytics is automatically enabled in every course. It will appear at the bottom of your course menu, but students will not see that menu item.
  • Page views and participation metrics include an aggregate across all devices, including Canvas mobile apps.
  • Participation for this purpose includes actions that create artifacts in Canvas. For example, a discussion post, submitting an assignment, starting a quiz, completing a quiz or creating a page.
  • New Analytics is only updated every 24 hours, so it does not reflect real-time data.
  • New Analytics will not appear on courses without student activity. After the activity begins, it may take up to 40 hours for new data to generate.
