With the Fall 2017 semester, advisers have new views into advising information in Banner.

The update from Banner 8 to Banner 9 brings a revamped advising module with more streamlined access to information.

Note: For administrative users, the Office of the Registrar has prepared more in-depth instructions for navigating Banner 9 advising functions.

Searching for Advisees

The biggest change is the addition of an advising dashboard, which pulls together student information in one place. Faculty and advisors no longer need to click through multiple screens when they’re working with students. Advising Self-Service in Banner 9 allows you to search by student ID, email or name, or by browsing a complete list to select the correct advisee.

Available Information

The landing page for each advisee includes all the relevant student information:
  • biographic information
  • academic standing
  • current GPA
  • enrolled hours
Related functions can be found in separate tabs, including:
  • Academic Transcripts
  • Student Schedules
  • Application to Graduate
  • Registration and Planning
  • Registration Overrides
  • View Grades
  • Access to Degree Works

Accessing the Advising Dashboard

The Advising Dashboard is available through myHilltop, and replaces the previous functionality available there. Advisee information will also still be accessible through Banner SSB until December, though we recommend trying out the new functionality earlier.
