The Banner 9 upgrade is a big project because Banner touches everything we do here at St. Edward's. To help you understand what this means for you, we'll keep this page updated with where we are in the upgrade process.
With this iteration of Banner, Ellucian has rolled out a version upgrade (from Banner 8 to 9). These kinds of upgrades typically require a more robust testing process than other smaller releases before we can roll them out to the university community. This is our first Banner version upgrade at St. Edward's, so we want to make sure the process goes as smoothly as possible, especially since the changes are substantial.
What have we done so far?
In Spring 2017, we started working with the Finance and Human Resources offices not only to upgrade the administrative pages but also to test every last process. Following that work, Banner 9 Student, Student Accounts Receivable and Financial Aid administrative pages went live over the summer. Now, we're pleased to announce the completion of these upgrades Monday, Oct. 16, with the go-live of Advancement pages.
As for what you'll notice, there are subtle yet significant changes with the new version of Banner. Most notably, it's web-based. (No need to worry anymore about Java issues.)
The major changes include:
- Mobile availability on any device
- Improved usability and navigation
- Elimination of Oracle forms
User access will be transitioned from Banner 8 to Banner 9 automatically, so the access you have in Banner 8 will transfer to Banner 9 without any action on your part.

What about training and documentation?
We have created an updated Banner Navigation video, which is also available through myHilltop, as well as documentation for business processes that may affect you.
In addition, the Office of the Registrar will hold training sessions to answer any questions you might have regarding the processes that involve student information. Other areas may provide targeted training workshops as well.
