In Panopto, add computer-generated captioning to your recordings for viewers to read audio transcriptions while watching the video.

Considerations for using Panopto's automatic captioning feature:
- Highly accurate captions on recordings made in a controlled environment (e.g., your home or office).
- Recordings made in classrooms or other environments tend to have less accurate captions, making them less useful.
You should always review the captions and edit them as needed.
Panopto doesn't provide default settings to caption videos; hence, follow the directions below to caption videos individually.
- Note: Instructors can caption any video in their course; students can only caption the videos they create.

Adding Captions
1. Go to the "Panopto Recordings" area in Canvas.
2. Hover over the recording you want to caption and select "Edit."
3. The recording editor will open the video in a new tab.
4. On the left side of the screen, select "Captions."
5. Click the dropdown arrow next to"Import Captions" and select "Import Automatic Captions."

6. Edit the captions to correct misinterpreted text.

Editing Captions
- To edit or delete the caption, hover over it and click the three dots to access the"Edit" and "Delete" buttons.

- If you choose to edit the caption, the following screen will appear, allowing you to edit the time and caption. To save your edits, click "Save."

- Click"Apply" in the upper right to save your changes, then click "OK" if needed.
- Panopto processes the video, which may take a while depending on its length.
