Using Zoom on a Classroom iPad

Classroom iPads are available to bring videoconferencing and recording capabilities to instructional spaces that are not equipped with video cameras and microphones. Faculty can run Zoom on a classroom iPad to meet synchronously with remote students or to record to the cloud for students to view asynchronously.

To Use Zoom on a Classroom iPad

  1. Before you start your Zoom session, unplug the power cable from the wall and unplug the blue USB cable from the PowerBank. Then press the button on the side of the PowerBank. This will allow the PowerBank to supply power to the iPad.
  2. Press the home button on the iPad to access the home screen.
  3. Click on the Zoom icon, which can be found in the dock at the bottom of the screen.
  4. Click "Sign In." Then, under Or, Sign In With, select "SSO."
  5. Enter "stedwards" as the company domain. Then enter your St. Edwards username and password.
  6. Once you have signed in, click Launch Zoom to open the Zoom app.
  7. From here, you can start a new meeting, join a meeting, and access your account settings. If you have already scheduled your meeting, click Meetings in the left side menu to access and start your scheduled meetings.
  8. When your meeting is over, end the meeting and be sure to Sign Out of your Zoom account. Select "Settings," tap your profile, then scroll to the bottom to Sign Out.
  9. Plug the power cable back into the wall, and plug the blue USB cable back into the PowerBank. This will supply power to the PowerBank to keep it fully charged for the next use.

Tips and Best Practices for Using a Classroom iPad

  • Any other device in the room that joins the Zoom meeting should be fully muted, both microphone and speaker, to avoid creating audio feedback.
  • The stand is mobile and flexible:
    • Unplug it to move the unit anywhere in your classroom.
    • Adjust the gooseneck to capture different angles.
    • Raise or lower the pole to adjust the height of the camera.

Troubleshooting

  • Previous users' login may persist in Safari. If you attempt to log in and a previous user's account is still active, go to Settings > Safari, and tap Clear History and Website Data. Then begin the login process again.
  • Need help? Click the OIT icon next to the Zoom icon in the dock at the bottom of the home screen to access support.stedwards.edu.
