The Canvas editor provides a condensed toolbar that is grouped by common icons and interactions. To learn how to use the editor, refer to the links below.

The editor toolbar has basic tools displayed in two rows with submenus. You'll find all the necessary tools in the Menu bar or Toolbar.

Tips for Using the Editor
To access formatting tools like bullets, indents, tables, clear formatting, or embedding, click the 3-dot icon at the end of the toolbar to expand the editor.

To add a link to another Canvas page, use the Link tool. Click "Course Links" to access all of your course content.

To upload an image, click the image tool and choose the source: computer or existing course files.

Note: To add Alt text to your image, include it during upload or by hovering over the image and selecting "Image Options."


Click "Done" to save your Alt text.
To link to a file like your syllabus, use the Document tool. Click the document icon and choose to "Upload a file" or link a "Course Document."

Note: To embed the full-text version of a file after you upload, hover over the link and select "Link Options."


Select "Preview inline" and "Expand preview by default."
Click "Done" to save your options.
To embed a Panopto video, click the Panopto icon to embed an existing video or record a new one.

To link and embed YouTube videos, use the YouTube tool in the editor toolbar. Click the YouTube icon to launch the tool. If it's not visible, click "Options" to expand the toolbar.
